good. glorious. food.

By The EpicurUAEn / March 31, 2013 / chat, news, tastings / 8 Comments Here in the Middle East, we follow a different week structure to the rest of the developed world. We work Sunday-Thursdays, and enjoy our weekends of Friday and Saturday.
So on Saturdays, I try my very best to roll into Sunday with a sense of calm (no, I’m not the type to go out with a bang). And there is nothing more calming than a little undiscovered cafe, with delightful food surprises and shopping to boot!
This is what I found at the newly ready Comptoir 102. (http://www.comptoir102.com/)From what I know comptoir means “counter” in French, and the place is situated at villa 102, on Jumeirah Beach Road: thus, the name.

Mini fields of flowers are glittering JBR lately, so a lovely breeze of flowers and colors greeted us as we walked to the entrance. The villa is beautiful designed with accents of modern, french and Moroccan inspiration.

The sitting area adjacent to the entrance is dedicated to the cafe, and there is ample space for lounging, chilling and enjoying lunch or just a sweet snack/drink.

Inside the store is a beautiful range of knick-knacks: all the items fall into the theme of “exquisite and interesting”, rather than a category (there are simply too many to categorize: accessories, furniture, kitchenware, rugs…) From an interesting puffer fish installation, to quirky espadrilles, and french designer handbags- its a treat for all the senses (getting to the cafe soon)…

Didn’t want to blow my cover and ask too many questions, so wasn’t able to meet the owner or chefs properly- even though they were prancing around chatting to me, fixing the already perfect looking store, and discussing menus. Although it’s the newest addition to the store, the cafe will be serving all sorts of organic/healthy/nutritional delights.

We were told the day’s special was a wonderful gluten free chocolate mousse, and banana cake: we had both thank you.

It seems more and more new outlets are focusing on special nutritional trends nowadays, and not compensating at all on taste
Totally approve of this. The chocolate mousse was richly flavored, perfectly textured and incredibly light! The banana cake nearly made me cry- as did the all the cute cups and saucers. I should leave some to the imagination and your visit…
Lovely Saturday, I will remember you…
